The relatively flat surface of the island has made the bicycle an incredibly popular form of transportation and means of discovering the hidden beauties of Kos. Besides bike and car hire, there are regular bus services connecting the entire island and a huge taxi fleet, if you want to go in style.
It is also worth mentioning that on Kos, as on a few other Greek Islands including all of the Dodecanese, you can buy certain imported products cheaper than anywhere else because of the lower VAT (value added tax) which is only at 13% |

Greece to ban smoking in public areas

The home to Europe's largest population of smokers has just over a year to go before a ban outlaws the habit in all public places, including restaurants, bars and offices, the Greek Health Ministry said Friday.

Greek tourist authority forecasts a rocky 2009

The number of foreign tourists arriving at Greek airports declined 1.2 percent in the first nine months of 2008 and next year is likely to be considerably worse as a worldwide downturn bites, an industry body said on Monday. Tourist Research Institute (ITEP) said the number of tourists fell by 4.8 percent in September which is normally a strong month for arrivals, indicating that figures for the rest of the year would remain negative.
